I think they'll take a big hit if Adobe releases their Project Shasta app. Unfortunately, Descript is the gold standard. Descript is doing it best but has spent zero time on the UI/UX of their users. I'm not a fan of Descript because it doesn't seem to do anything well and the competitors I have tried in either the transcript generation or the audio betterizer space leave a lot to be desired. It's a high promise that can't always be delivered.

Compression is a very personal choice, so users should be able to have some sort of options for compression. I have never heard an AI/ML EQ option that has sounded good because each piece of audio has its own needs. I'll agree that options for noise reduction and normalization make sense. Like Youtube, the exact second something better comes along, I will jump ship with gusto. How does your program handle multiple mic inputs when it transcribes? Descript just has a stroke when it comes to anything but single speaker podcasts, so if you can handle multiple speakers like sonix does or better, you might have me for the length of my time in podcasts. Studio sound decreases sound quality more often than not after a semi-recent update.I'm one of the three main answerers on the descript users Facebook group so I'm quite knowledgable and capable in the program and in general. I've never gotten a usable transcription from them, I've waited months for ticket response to be told they can't fix it, and I have spent so much time on chat with them that they know me by name. Descript has been a nightmare to use and I would happily throw more money than they charge at a replacement that actually works. I haven't used the program yet, but I just wanted to voice my agreement with the other commenter. I was granted permission to post by the r/podcasting moderators. It comes with a royalty-free library of music and sound. There is no compressor, noise gate, de-esser, EQ, etc… to tweak. It also does all the post-processing automatically for you like Auphonic. It has a text-based audio editor like Descript but it is a lot simpler to use and it works directly in your browser. I’ve made an online tool that could help you save time creating your podcast.
